Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, fiends, and dark forces increasing in influence within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season follow below.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team features Teor (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.

That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

Per the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might seem mismatched, but the developments of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

First, the party knows exactly where to head next after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and ran away to a secure base in the remote area, north of the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each member has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the companion and best friend, wants vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in Timmony and warns that it is a dangerous place.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their position as key figures in House Halovar could enable the team enter areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The grateful character swore a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The healer turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to travel to the remote area in search of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we discover that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to form the Seekers and Strategists tables.

Viewers can anticipate discovering which characters will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, released on October 24.
