Senate Approves Bill to Make Public Jeffrey Epstein Documents

The Senate on this Tuesday gave swift approval to legislation that will require the publication of case documents concerning the late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, after a overwhelming vote in the House of Representatives and a shift by Donald Trump and his GOP allies. Trump's team gave in after months of trying to block the cross-party initiative involving a controversy that has followed the president since his return to the White House.

Expedited Approval in Congress

Senators proceeded by general agreement, which needs acceptance from each senator but avoids a individual voting process, expediting the process. Earlier that day, the House overwhelmingly approved the bill on a massive majority.

The public have been patient long enough. Jeffrey Epstein’s victims have waited patiently,” the Senate Democratic leader stated in a floor speech on Tuesday, before requesting the Senate to pass it unanimously. “Let the truth come out. Ensure full disclosure.”

Presidential Signature

The bill next will be sent to Trump for his endorsement. The president signaled on the previous day that he would approve the bill.

Although Trump has for an extended period rejected the outcry over the authorities' approach of the Epstein case as a “Democrat hoax”, he expressed his backing for the legislation over the weekend, and stated he would give his assent if it comes to him.

Support and Opposition

The Democratic party, along with survivors of Epstein and their advocates who were watching from a public section, applauded after the bill was passed. The sole “no” vote came from a GOP representative, who expressed concern he feared the measure would reveal identifying details of individuals involved, persons of interest and others implicated in the investigation.
