Waymo's Self-Driving Vehicles Set to Arrive London Roads Starting 2026.

The US-based company Waymo has announced that its driverless cabs will be on offer for use on London's roads starting next year.

UK Capital Named as First European City for Autonomous Taxi Service.

London will emerge as the first European city to host an self-driving taxi service, similar to those already familiar in multiple US cities and several American urban centers utilizing Waymo's cutting-edge platform.

Preliminary Trials to Commence with Human Specialists.

Waymo stated that its cars are currently heading to London and will start operating on the city's streets in the next few weeks with trained human specialists supervising the vehicles.

Waymo – initially established as a spin-off from the tech giant's self-driving car program and part of the larger corporate umbrella – indicated it would increase operations and collaborate with the government transport body and Transport for London to acquire the required approvals to offer fully autonomous rides by 2026.

Expanding Interest in Autonomous Transport In London.

Other organizations, including Uber and the UK-based technology firm Wayve, have likewise announced their own strategies to pilot autonomous taxis in the capital next year.

This follows the British government announcing it would speed up guidelines permitting real-world tests to proceed before laws supporting self-driving vehicles becomes law in full.

Waymo presently has links to Britain after establishing its inaugural European technical center in Oxford in 2019.

It is also introducing operations in Tokyo using Jaguar Land Rover electric vehicles, marking its sole additional current venture outside the US.
